2010 Champion Hurdle Betting

Richard Johnson and Detroit City trail the leaders at The Champion Hurdle Race 2007

The 2010 Champion Hurdle once again looks to be one of the betting highlights of the Cheltenham Festival.

Punters have played their cards close to their chests in the run up to the Festival’s Blue Riband short distance hurdles race, and a bankable antepost favourite has failed to emerge in a race notorious for producing surprises.

2010 Champion Hurdle Favourites

Solwhit and Go Native head the betting for the 2010 Champion Hurdle. Go Native comes into the race on the verge of claiming the Triple Crown of Hurdles, having already won the Fighting Fifth Hurdle and Christmas Hurdle this season.

A hurdler of impeccable class, Go Native boasts five wins from his last seven races and has failed to place only twice in his career.

Solwhit has shaped up as the main challenger to Go Native’s Triple Crown aspirations.

C Byrne’s entry comes into the Champion Hurdle having won the Irish Champion Hurdle and the December Festival Hurdle at Leopardstown, but only managed third place at the Fighting Fifth Hurdle – a race won by Go Native.

Zaynar is next in the betting, and is one of four contenders priced in the 9/1 to 11/1 margin by bookmakers. While the French raider has never won a Grade one race, career stats which include five wins from six starts over hurdles are hard to ignore.

2010 Champion Hurdle Betting Tip

The Champion Hurdle has the potential to produce a major upset, and the favourite rarely goes on to win the race. However, there’s no doubt that Go Native is one of the classiest antepost favourites to have entered the race in several years.

Given that all three of the top contenders can be backed at odds of 4/1 or above, we’re happy to take an each-way to nothing bet on Go Native to win the Triple Crown.

We’re also happy to back Zaynar with an each-way punt, as this horse’s strong record suggests that a place is well within reach for Nicky Henderson’s entry.
