Cheltenham Festival Betting
Cheltenham Festival betting is one of the highlights on the punter’s racing calendar, with spectators turning up at the event in their droves to witness firsthand the spectacle of the most prestigious hurdle horse racing events of the year.

The golden rule of horse racing betting is to pay attention to previous form. Races at the Cheltenham Festival in particular have shown how history has a habit of repeating itself – for example in the period from 1995 to 2005, there were a total of 21 dual festival winners.
Also worth noting is that 25 of the last 55 handicaps at the last seven festivals were won by horses that also found success from their previous start (that’s a 45% strike rate, which makes it a significant consideration when making your champion hurdle betting decisions).
Cheltenham races require endurance rather than flat-out speed so bet accordingly. Also bear in mind that five-year-olds have proved to be largely unsuccessful for some reason.
Although older horses are often successful due to their staying power, be weary of horses that have double-figured ages. In the last seven years, there has only been one horse (Moscow Flyer) aged ten or over that has won any of the big four championship races – making for a very poor strike rate of less than 4%.
French-bred chasers have performed well in races up to 2m5f. The French horses are powerful and fast due to the short nature of most races in France, and have been known to pull a few surprises out the bag to overturn the betting odds.
The last seven festivals saw 19 of the 24 novice hurdles being won by horses that had won in their previous races. Last year, for example, all five novice races were won in this way. Finally, it is often wise to keep a substantial portion of your betting funds aside for the final day of the festival, which is when individual race statistics are more meaningful and useful.
