Katchit put in an impressive performance to win the 2008 Champion Hurdle on the first day of the 2008 Cheltenham Festival. The race got off to a fast-paced start with Osana leading from the front. For the first half of the race second-favourite Osana led the pack by three lengths.

However, the 2008 Champion Hurdle results were decided in the second half of the race as the race favourite Sizing Europe appeared to lose interest in the race before pulling up. This left Osana, Katchit, Sublimity and Punjabi fighting for the lead.

The battle towards the end of the race was frantic, with Tom Scudamore pushing Osana to his limits in an attempt to maintain the lead. However, Katchit, with Robert Thornton aboard, pushed back hard and managed to move into first place. This left Sublimity and Punjab to fight for third place, with Punjabi surprising the crowd by finishing ahead of his short odds rival.

The results will be disappointing for Irish racing fans who were hoping to see their horses take the top three positions in the 2008 Champion Hurdle results. Irish favourite Harchibald was perhaps the biggest dissappointment as he struggled over the heavy turf as predicted by his trainer Noel Meade. Instead of witnessing a display of Irish dominance, the Champion Hurdle saw the top three positions taken by English horses.
