The Champion Hurdle is one of the most popular races amongst the legions of Irish fans who cross the Irish Sea to attend the Cheltenham Festival every year. One reason for this is that the Champion Hurdle is one of the races that has most consistently delivered Irish champions.
Sizing Europe Record and Statistics
Sizing Europe has generated a great deal of excitement in Ireland since a run of good results at the end of 2007 saw him priced as the favourite for the 2008 Champion Hurdle. Trained by Henry de Bromhead, Sizing Europe has a pure Irish pedigree.
Sizing Europe started his career in racing in Ireland with two unremarkable performances in novices hurdles events in 2006, taking his first win in his third race later that year. In ten races Sizing Europe has taken five wins, placed once and shown once.
In the early part of his career Sizing Europe’s form was intermittent, but in 2007 he came into his own and achieved wins in a string of big races against strong competition. Recent race wins including the 2007 Greatwood Handicap Hurdle, which saw him trump a big field, and the AIG Europe Champion Hurdle which saw him beat a small field of top class hurdlers.
