In 2008, trainer Alan King’s Katchit put in a terrific performance to become the first five-year-old horse to win the Smurfit Kappa Champion Hurdle since See You Then’s victory in 1985. English jockey Robert Thornton paced the hurdler perfectly to pull in a length before Osana at 10/1 odds. The total prize money for the 2008 Cheltenham Champion Hurdle was around £360,000.
The 2007 Cheltenham Champion Hurdle was won by Sublimity with jockey Philip Carberry and trainer John Carr.
